Eventos California Cantina

Back in 2001, James and Dan came to Chile on a study abroad program. At first, we weren't too sure of one another, but soon became great friends. We both fell in love with Chile and everything that it had to offer. We have always referred to Chile as the California of South America and we LOVE it here!

However, while studying in Chile, there were a few major things that we craved and missed. First, we couldn't find a a good burger or real Mexican food anywhere. Second, we missed out on some of our favorite sporting events because they were not broadcasted in Chile. Lastly, when we watched the Super Bowl while being forced to listen to the WORST hits of the 80's at a "Sports Bar" or "American Restaurant/Bar," we knew what we had to do.

After graduating from our Universities back in California, and working in the "real world," we always had something in the back of our minds. We were constantly dreaming and scheming about going back to Chile to open the restaurant of our dreams. In 2006, right after James and Heidi's wedding, we knew it was now or never.

James, Heidi and Dan sold everything and moved to Santiago, Chile in January 2007. Their first restaurant, BASIC Sports Bar and Restaurant in Ñuñoa, opened it doors May 2, 2007. They struggled a bit their first year, but by the second, word was out and they started to experience tremendous growth. Basic Bar became known as the "Gringo Bar" and the English speakers and Chileans were impressed and loved it. By the grace of God, enormous support from their families, friends, loyal clientele and a ridiculous amount of free press, they were able to open the REAL restaurant of their dreams - CALIFORNIA SPORTS CANTINA AND RESTAURANT.
